Is UDel good with matching up roommates? I feel awkward looking for a roommate through facebook or roomsurf.com, I feel like I'm on a dating site haha. The questionnaire on mybluehen is REALLY vague for the roommate search.. so idk.

How are the sororities? Like are they at all stuck up, fun, or anything else?

Do you think that UDel worth a debt of 40,000 dollars when I graduate? (10,000 a year in student loans) I love UDel SOOO much but I keep thinking that I shouldn't go just because of the cost... I just need some insight from current Blue Hens! (or the parents!)

thank you!!

What are your other options?

As far as roomates go, my daughter didn’t get one! It’s not like she asked for a single but she is in one this year. Don’t know why… Rodney complex has almost all singles. It has its good and bad points.

She decided to join a sororiety to make the campus seem a little smaller. As a freshman, she was a bit overwhelmed at how many people she didn’t know, having come from a place where everyone knew her and vice versa. Her sororiety is not stuck up, but there are several that are pretty sleazy. Hers had the highest gpa last spring and won Greek Week as well! She had a ball going through rush and met lots of great girls. It seems she has found her niche. YEA!

UD did a great job of matching S with his roommate. They have very different interests, but are on the same wavelength as far as being respectful of each other’s space, noise, sleep, etc. It’s worked out so well that they’re rooming together next year.

$40K of debt is not insignificant. Do you know your major or your plans after college?

admiralamber: They changed it this year where you can have the option of picking your roommate. And that’s awesome for your daughter! What sorority is it?

Booklady: Makes me feel a little better if i decide to let UD pick my roommate haha. And I am currently going undecided but switching into a science major, minoring in criminal justice. I eventually want to pursue my masters in forensic sciences, so I wasn’t sure if 40,000 dollars will be a burden when it comes to going to grad school and paying for that.

Since Master’s degrees generally aren’t funded (unlike Ph.D’s), you might be better off taking on less debt for undergrad so you’ll have the money for grad school. What are your other choices for college?

UConn (a little more expensive), Penn State (branch campus, don’t want to do that), Virginia Tech (too far), Towson, and West Chester. I know West Chester is my best bet because it’s a great price for in state, but I just LOVE UDel! It’s making me go crazy because UDel is better in academics, the school spirt is better, and the campus is beautiful. I just feel like it makes more sense for me to go to West Chester for the money issue, I just don’t want to accept the fact haha.

WCU and UofD are quite similar in several ways. Both are very nice, and the in-state WCU rate can’t be beat! That said, my son chose UofD to follow his mentor who teaches in his major, and LOVES it!!

$40k is nothing to sneeze at, but can you work out loans or such that they don’t have to be paid back until you are out of GRAD school? Would that free up the $ you can’t get in loans to use for grad school by holding on to your cash to spend at grad school & taking out loans for undergrad? (hope that makes sense)…
