A few questions

Alright, so I'm starting my college essay for Stony Brook, and notice that their essay has a maximum word count of 8,000 characters. Once I saw this, I was pretty happy but confused at the same time lol, because 8,000 is a lot of characters allowed, which is a good thing. However, does having an essay of around 7,000 characters increase the chances compared to an essay with only 1,000-2,000? I know it's not much about the "quantity", but instead the "quality", however does having an "amazing" paper with a lower word count stand different chances compared to an "amazing" paper with more characters? I can't really explain it lol, but since 8,000 is a lot, I'm trying to figure out whether or not I should use up all of them, or just figure out how much I can get down and go from there. I'd say I can easily get 3,000-4,000 words, but I really need to figure out where I should go from there.

And yea, different expereinces will differ in their word count, but if you understand where I'm trying to get at, I'd appreciate an answer. :)

Thanks

Note: I won't be applying to any of the Honors College/etc that REQUIRE the supplement, I'm simply doing the supplemenet section in order to bring out something othan than my grades/numbers. Pretty sure it's allowed since I've asked, but does it benefit/increase the chances of being accepted?

Did you apply early action? I was wondering if I submit my supp that they would even receive it in time to make the decision. I think that it is only used for other purposes though :S

No, this is for regular admission :p

Well good luck then:D

Please don't send us 8,000-word essays; save that for your classwork. If you've said what you want to say in 2,000 words, then hit "SEND." Don't put extra words in there that you don't mean; that's violating rule number one of being an effective writer.

Please, please, please don't obsess over this essay. Please. Just write it and submit it. It's a very, very small piece of the application puzzle.
