Oh puhleeze. That's exactly what it was about. Several hundred partying college students who resented being told to knock it off at 1:30 in the morning on a weeknight.<

Fine. Go back to the Swarthmore Forum where your simplistic, reductionist analysis is SO appreciated.

There were a number of students standing outside when the attack started who were just their because they live on teh street and wanted to know what was going on. Many first hand reports (including one from someone I personally trust not to be too biases) say that the cops just sat around most of the time before they started using force, and it was very unclear that they wanted the students to dispurse.

Thats just what I heard. Personally, I think the students were unwise to stick around, and some acted downright stupidly, but that cops acted with WAY more force than necessary, and that's, IMO, worse.

ID, we can all disagree on whether the police force was excessive, whether Wes students deserved it, etc. But your posting on this thread seems mean-spirited.

I'm not sure how you know so much about Swarthmore. Your daughter must give you a detailed daily report on her life there. And not just her life, but on the lives of other students as well as the lives of the school's faculty and administration. How do you know about these conversations with area police and students? Whatever your source, we do appreciate your constructive suggestions.

On "riot", I find your interpretation of offenses rather strange, especially since on this discussion board you tried to explain away a Swarthmore student's arrest related to a sexual offense, I believe that was the charge, as just some kid being stupid. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he was and is now a registered sex offender. But you insist that Wes students incited a "riot"? So, yeah, I find your mockery confusing.

What in the world does a student caught for downloading internet porn in a national sting operation six years ago have to do with the Fountain Avenue Riot?

Or, are you just going for the old "Oh, yeah..well your momma wears army boots" approach?

BTW, I wouldn't know whether he is still registered or not. After a year leave, he returned for his senior year and graduated with Highest Honors four years ago. Fewer than a dozen graduate with Highest Honors each year. Honors exams (written and oral) are administered by panels of outside experts who determine the honors designation.
