aiite guys im debating if i should go to csulb or uci. csulb is very very close to my house but uci is about 25 miles away. first thing i wanna know is what time do the earliest classes start at? i read 8 somewhere but are there classes that start earlier? another thing is if you come late can you still enter class? also, is there any stores n stuff nearby? cuz like i went there last night and i really didn't see anything around the uni and it was super quiet...so yea lol. and finally, does uci help you get a job after you finish? like are there job fairs and stuff.

oh yea one more thing lol how do dorms work? is it like your own house or is it 1 room + 1 public kitchen / bathroom for 5 or 6 people? and are there any apartments near uci? i didnt see any lol but that's prolly cuz i went at night...

XD sorry if some of those questions seem retarded but i really dont know anyone else that went to college haha.

Earliest classes are at 8am. As a freshman depending on your major it might be hard to avoid at least one of these lovely classes.(Personally I try to take the 8am classes and be done by noon, but Im a minority apparently)
If you come late to class you can usually just walk right in. Your in college, most of the time they don’t care when you come and go or if you even go at all.
There are stores near by. A ton in University Town Center(UTC) which is sorta connected to campus by a bridge.Stuff like Cha, Yogurtland, Trader Joes, In and Out, lots of other random stuff + restaurants. Also about a block down there is the albertsons shopping center which has other stuff in it.

We have a career center and they have job fairs every quarter. They also offer career advising and other opportunities.

In dorms you generally have a double room(but maybe single, triple or quad) so you share room in a Suite. So about 2 people per room and about 6 rooms per Suite. Each Suite(at least where I am) has their own bathroom, or maybe 2 bathrooms if its a co-ed suite. Multiple suites make up a Hall(about 60-80 people total). Most halls have a shared kitchen and in Middle Earth a study room and living room(with a TV!).
Hope that answers all your questions. They do offer housing tours if you want to see what its like before committing to anything.

Most people seem to go for the afternoon or late morning classes. Generally for every class you have either 3 days (MWF) of 1 hour each day + 1hour discussion, or 2 days (TuTh) for 1.5 hours a day + 1 hour discussion. Though this varies depending on the class, like chem lab is a 4 hour block(bleh!)
Heres what my schedule looked like this last quarter:

BIO SCI 94
M W F 12:00-12:50p
BIO SCI 94 Dis
Tu 11:00-11:50

WRITING 39C
M W F 9:00- 9:50

CHEM 1B LEC
M W F 8:00- 8:50
CHEM 1B DIS
M 11:00-11:50
CHEM 1LB LAB
W 1:00- 4:50p

ANTHRO 2A LEC
Tu Th 9:30-10:50
ANTHRO 2A DIS
M 10:00-10:50

If that makes any sense. My Spring Quarter is not as nice though =/

I don’t any direct knowledge about the prices of apartments but its not cheap =/.

khiz15, i think you should dorm your first year… i hear it’s what makes the college experience, and i wouldn’t give it up for the world.

tatertotz, so you only took 4 classes last quarter? (is that the minimum?)
and is one required to go to discussions? i mean, those are probably led by TA’s right?

Some discussions attendance is required(anthro) but most attendance is not required but is valuable. In chem you go over questions that are basically identical to the test questions often. In bio its just a good review, and my TA was a med student taking a year to get his MBA. The only discussion I have wanted to skip is Anthro and its the only one where attendance was taken.

Usually most people take between 3-4 classes. Last quarter I took 12 units(3 classes). Next quarter I will be taking 18 units agian but only 3 classes(+lab) + 3 units of research

not when you’re going to be staying at home and uci is 30 mins away when the freeway is clear (aka 1hour maybe more in the morning). think before you speak.
