1) As a Junior next year, I have a choice of AP Stats or AP Physics B. I think Physics B is a little more rigorous and looks a little better, but I would mainly be taking it for prep for Physics C Senior year. AP Stats may not be as hard, but I think I have some use for it. Should I take Physics B and be able to review some Physics? Or just stick with AP Stats and cram for Physics C senior year?

2) I think I'll be applying EA for some schools (non-binding). The only thing that makes me hesitate is the prospect of getting an early rejection. My question is, do colleges only reject you if you have ABSOLUTELY no way of improving enough to get in? If you had a fairly decent app with room for improvement, and would get rejected in RD, they just defer you right? Sorry if I worded it weirdly. So basically, is EA a little softer than RD?

3)What's the difference between research and an internship with a prof? I've seen them been used inerchangably. I assume research is part of the internship? It's just that an internship seems more formal or something.

Idk if my school is just an anomaly, but in my experience AP Stats is THE BIGGEST waste of time to ever be granted “AP” status. The entire curriculum revolves around “sources of bias” and “analyzing significance.” It’s sooo repetitive. There’s no real math involved either, aside from a couple simple formulas.

It depends on the college. Some reject a lot, and some defer a lot. If you’re worried about a rejection though, you shouldn’t apply EA. Non-binding EA is generally harder than RD.

My aunt went to a top 25 school and told me an AP is an AP. Think about it. Thousands of applicants would they really look carefully into each class?

I’m don’t know how old your aunt is, but if she’s been out of college for awhile, she may be a little out of touch with current college admissions. It is generally recognized that some AP classes are more rigorous than others. Calc, Bio, Chem, Phys, Eng, USH and maybe a couple others are considered the toughest, while others such as Stats, Environ Sci and Psych are easier.

Here’s a thread that discusses the difficulty of different APs:

But if I’ll be taking Physics C Senior year anyways, should I just go ahead and take Stats? I mean, it may not be as rigorous but I might learn SOMETHING, but then I won’t take any science class Junior year.

According to my GC, many colleges prefer people taking the core classes (math, science, history, and english) all 4 years of high school. Due to this, I think you would take the physics class, so you won’t have no science next year.
