A few questions

Hi all!

I had a couple questions about education pathways:

1.) Would having a M.S. improve my chances of getting into medical school?
2.) If so, are there some 5 year BS/MS programs out there (I know Carnegie Mellon has one) in biological sciences? (Molecular Biology or Neuroscience would be nice)

I believe that Johns Hopkins has such a program in neuroscience.

<a href="http://undergradneurosci.jhu.edu/BAMS.html%5B/url%5D">http://undergradneurosci.jhu.edu/BAMS.html</a></p>

U Chicago, I think, also has a BS/MS in molecular biology. Good luck.
I believe you might also find more such programs by searching on "combined BS/MS [or BA/MS] neuroscience [or molecular biology]". Good luck!

thanks ppl!

I don't think that having an MS would be a tremendous advantage for getting into medical school. MCAT's and GPA seem to be the most heavily weighted parts of the admission package. However, having an MS could be invaluable in helping you fine tune your career path in medicine and open up some research and clinical possibilities not typically available to the med student without such advanced scientific training.
