Hi everyone (: I'm a junior considering Drexel, and had a few questions about the school..

What is campus life like? Is there a lot of commuter students, or do most leave on the weekends? (I don't live locally)
Why do so few students live on the dorms after freshmen year? Is there great housing in Philadelphia, or is Drexel housing poor?

What is this VIP application?

I'm interested in majoring in Biology and minoring in French. How are these programs?

Finally, research? Study abroad? Has anyone had good/bad experiences with these at Drexel?

I know some of them are kind of broad, If anyone could answer any of these questions, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I could spend a lot of time answering each of these questions in-depth, but you could read some of the other threads here and find them yourself. ;)

In short:
Campus life varies, and some people leave every weekend while others always stay. Again, that will vary depending on your friends and their personal choices. The campus is never really “dead” though except on the extended breaks.

Drexel housing is more expensive than finding housing elsewhere. People also live in “off-campus” apartments that are smack in the middle of campus but not leased by Drexel.

VIP app is just an application pretty much.

Biology is changing its curriculum around to include concentrations and some new classes. Check back in a year when you’re making your decisions to see how the program has changed, likely for the better.

The French department here is very nice, I’ve had good experiences with one professor and heard good things about another main professor.

Research is there if you want it and have the initiative to approach professors, or you can participate in STAR the summer after your freshman year. Study abroad programs are available as well. Check their website for options of where you can go.

Thank you sarahjudith! That’s really helpful. Could you give me any insight on the general atmosphere around campus? Like politically and religiously? I’ve read about there being strong Christian or Fundamentalist values around campus, and I was wondering how that affects the school. Thanks again (:

I don’t know where you heard about the Christian or Fundamentalist values because I certainly don’t know about them. Of course I have a couple friends that go to church religiously, but the majority of students don’t really care much about religion except for the major holidays for their respective religions (or that is my perception of religion here). If you are religious then there are groups on campus that you can get involved with, and same if you like a particular branch of politics. The entire campus cannot be grouped under one religious or political affiliation though.

I think I read something about it on **************.com. I’m glad to here the school is so homogeneous. I appreciate the response!
