A few questoins regarding commitments and where the NESCAC is in recruiting?

Hi, does anyone who has experience know where more or less the NESCAC is for recruiting for helmet sports? Are offers being made now? When are most made? Someone said in August? Not sure if that is accurate, do offers continue to be made into the fall?

When a kid commits, what does he tell other coaches who might be pursuing him? I have heard two schools of thought from "you never know so keep those relationships alive" to "once you commit you should tell other coaches the same".

Re the pre read, as I have read over some responses, are you saying the coaches are the ones who do the pre read, it might not even be going through admissions? So much "gray area"...wish there was a textbook!

From what I know, NESCACS (and Ivies) have already started making “solid overtures” towards kids they feel there is a “no lose” proposition with - that means they can’t lose with academics or athletics, even though Ivies will possibly cede the kids to big football D1 and the NESCACS will see kids they like go to Ivies.

Basically programs are making “overtures” (I wouldn’t necessarily say “offers”) to prospects at the very tops of their lists.

I think a lot of camps are coming to a close (but are definitely not done) and by the time pre-season helmet sports start up, a lot of recruiting in terms of gathering names, stats, ability and personal camp encounters is done for their purposes. You don’t need to see all 100 versions of the player you could see at position X on your team that exist in the US, or who want to go to your school … you just need to find one that works athletically, can get in academically, that you like as a person on the field, and the player likes you back.

Although feel free to say a school is first choice, there is no committing anywhere right now with NESCACs, it doesn’t mean anything. Do overnight visits with games and staying with team members. I would advise my son not to commit anywhere until after at least one overnight at the school in season and in session, and better yet, more than one, even three if necessary, but hope it’s more like choice A and B by the end of September.

Coaches don’t do pre-reads, though they can pretty accurately “vet” a player before offering overnights. Only admissions does pre-reads and because NESCACS don’t pay for visits, I imagine they do them only after a player has a good unofficial visit in September or October, and that would be in anticipation of using a valuable “slot” or “tip” with NESCAC admissions. Because Ivies or D1s pay for official visits, they would clearly want a real admissions pre-read.

I think NESCAC coaches do pre-reads only with super top athletic kids who really seem to love their schools (but who are iffy on academics), or with kids who have already done unofficials who fit the bill and they just want to see how they want to spend their monopoly money :)
