a few quick questions

Hey there, I have had a few quick questions about my matriculation into UCSB that have been bugging me and I was wondering if any of you could help me out. The first question has to do with my class schedule. A while ago, right after orientation and signing up for my classes, my older sister sat down with me to look at my schedule and see whether or not it's good. For whatever reason she told me to sign up for another class (even though I didn't really want it and it conflicted with my schedule), because I can drop it anytime or something like that. So, right now there are two classes at the same time on Monday and Thursday . I have no idea what she was talking about (she said something about trying both classes, talking to the professors and telling them about my situation) since I was too tired to care. So my question is, what do I do about this conflict of classes, since I can't just go to GOLD and drop it?

Question 2: I'm on the waitlist for Chem 1A and I have recently received an email regarding the homework that is due sometime late September. I don't understand why I would have to do the summer assignment, unless it guarantees me a spot this fall quarter. It does say that waitlisted student must do this summer assignment for a code to get into the class, but it doesn't specify which quarter. Wouldn't it be best just to wait for the winter quarter and sign up for it then? In other words, is there any reason for me to do the summer assignment? Is the summer assignment due this month my pass into chem 1a this winter? Sorry if I confused anyone with that.

Final Question: My roomate's phone number wasn't provided within the residence hall packet thing that we received a while back. Is there any surefire way to get his number, since it's pretty damn important to contact him. If I do fail to ever get his number, how should I pack up differently in order to handle the situation?

Thanks for any support you guys have, it's greatly appreciated!

1) you are able to drop classes in your third pass time. you need to attend at least the first day of class to assure you don’t get dropped. e-mailing professors is always an option. i can’t tell you which class to keep.

2) typically, if you are on the addlist then it is necessary to do the assignments, but NOT sufficient…i.e. you need to do the assignment but that doesn’t guarantee you will get in. are you sure it’s a summer assignment? i could see an assignment due late sept. for FALL.

3) facebook? GOLD student directory? wait for him to call you?

Will only comment on item 3. For eons, people have been going to college without knowing who or contacting their roommates. It’s not actually “pretty damn important”. It you take something you didn’t need, you can take it home later. On the other hand, if you leave something at home you did need, it may be harder to get it back. Have fun!

Did you check FB or join a FB group dealing with the college or your dorm or your major?

Do the summer assignment; it shows you’re serious about taking the class.

no need to put off for later what you can do now :)

do the summer assignment!
just in case if u get into chem 1a later
n the assignment was super easy
it wont take you much time to finish
