This has been bothering me since i applied (Priority). I think my letter of rec from my teacher got to the school late by like a week (letter lost in mail type of thing, but def was received later). What would this mean for my chances?

My main concern is that im a terrible writer, and im worried my essays were very mediocre. Would a bad essay be enough to reject me? My other stats seem like UMDCP would be a definite match, but im concerned and wanted to ask your guy's opinions.

Thanks, and PS this is a great site with a great community.

Of course the rec thing doesn’t matter

You are WAY overqualified for MD, of course they’ll admit you

I expect honors and a special program of some kind

I had nearly identical stats and got full tuition (in-state) scholarship…I did have like a 3.9 rather than a 3.8, and I’m definitely not a terrible writer, but honestly from your posts it doesn’t seem like you’re that terrible either :P

That probably didn’t matter much anyway, since I assume UMD is numbers-driven, but I dunno what the deal is for OOS students…you’re in, idk how much money you’ll get, but I expect something

Maryland’s a top school in a lot of fields…depends on what he wants to study, really.

Also it should be cheaper than lot of “better” schools (if his EFC is too high for finaid at an expensive private), and if he gets a scholarship, even more affordable.

So I wouldn’t say he’s “too” overqualified, after all, there are many people like him here ;).
