A few things

I'm an incoming freshmen. I got a D in a class the first semester of last school year, wrote ucsc. They said they would not rescind me as long as I got C's or better the next semester, which I have done. So, I'm thinking when I send in my final transcripts maybe I should remind them that they decided not to rescind me, as a little mistake on their part would make for a HUGE cluster****. Or are they good enough with these kinds of things for me not to have to worry about it?

Second thing, I got a 6 on the AWPE (seems they were looking for easy reading, not analyticity). However, in the Cowell info packet it's written that the ELWR can be satisfied two other ways besides the AWPE--with an AP English score of 3 or more, or a C or better in AP English. So what would this (either of the two) get me out of?

Better safe than sorry!

Those scores wouldn’t get you out of anything but the ELWR. You’d be placed in the regular core course, like most of the incoming class is. A 6 on the AWPE means you would have been placed in a remedial core course, and you would have to take the ELWR at the end of first quarter. I hope that makes sense.

Yeah thanks!

They make is seem like they will look on my transcript (the one that gets sent in anyway) specifically to see if I have passed the ELWR. Here’s what the cowell packet says:

“You have satisfied the ELWR if you have completed any one of the following: … - Mailed an official transcript witha qualifying college-level English course (with grade C or better) to the UCSC Admissions Office.”
