<p>I am trying to decide between Harvard and Yale SCEA, and I intend on indicating engineering as my major for both schools.</p>

State finalist for debate (unofficially I was 6th or so, but they didn't rank beyond top 5)</p>

<p>glassblowing with some metalworking: I make bowls, vases, paperweights and similar such things at my local museum. More recently swordsmithing has become a hobby, too.</p>

<p>Job/Work Experience: Work for my parents small business building statistical models for pricing warranties in this past year, general grunt work in the years before that. (Intended major is engineering)</p>

<p>Summer Activities: Glassblowing every summer</p>

<p>after junior year I am worked as a lab intern at a local university for about 35 hours per week on a project in bioanalytical chemistry.</p>

1st talked about curiosity as related to self-study APs and similar such things
2nd is excellent - I asked for it for a scholarship competition so I have already read it. Went something like "20 years teaching, had ~50 kids go to ivies over that time, best ever."
Counselor Rec: Likes me do to a very complicated series of events. Said it would be her best ever.
Additional Rec: Harvard prof who advised on my ISEF research, it should be excellent.</p>

<p>I’ll reply :slight_smile: I sincerely think that you have one of the most complete applications I’ve seen on here in a long time. Intel is great as is the online gaming thing. I would just apply to whichever you like better. Have you visited both? After I visited, I understood how they really do have very different feels. I think it’s possible to like both. But I would EA at whichever you really connect with. Hope that helps a bit, but hey at least I posted lol</p>

<p>with your credentials and an eye set for engineering, CalTech or MIT may seem more well suited for you, and you will most likely have no trouble getting in. by the way, you have a great chance for either harvard or yale EA. chance me back… </p>

<p>I do like MIT, and I am applying there RD. Caltech however is just too insular for me - I like science, but it isn’t my sole interest in life (as you can see from my ECs)</p>

<p>Honestly there’s not much to say. You have a great app, although when I read it I was surprised you were applying as an Engineering major. The app makes you look like a lawyer type. Anyway, good chances at both Harvard and Yale. Not gonna say great because it doesn’t exist for anybody. Goodluck!</p>

<p>Oh, and I agree with you on not applying to Caltech. I live very close to it and suffice to say, it’s not a good place for undergrads.</p>

<p>^ that was something I was a little worried about. Many of my hobbies are engineering focused, but there’s no space for hobbies on the common app, and no real ECs available in engineering, so I’ve had to stick with hard science as a surrogate.</p>

how did you even self study for all of those tests? please give us advice… i cant even take APs anymore cuz im in college but that level of learning is amazing please teach me your ways
