something seems wrong with this picture..... hmmm....

I'm a little confused by some of your post.

You're saying NOVA is different than the rest...of what? The state? Is that an attitude based on how much state transportation money is spent where you live? Or is your life-experience so much more enriched by living in close proximity to several high-rent shopping malls while those in Richmond only have one? Are you more fashion savvy? More in-tune with political waste and corruption? What exactly do you mean? ;)

I think you may be deluding yourself if you think Skidmore is a reach but Sarah Lawrence is not. I'd actually reverse them from what I've seen. There are few schools with as self-selected an applicant pool as SLC which skews their acceptance level dramatically. Even JMU can be a tough one, often rejecting in-state applicants who were accepted by UVA.

I don't think you've really supplied enough information about yourself for others to comment on your prospects. Most of the schools you mention rely on you expressing your passion for at least one pursuit that means something to you, extra-curricular or not. You've got some unique schools in there and how they make their decisions is not all cut-and-dried. Of all your choices, JMU really seems to admit by the numbers and yours aren't high enough, IMHO, to call it a safety. Maybe some more info would help.

Seriously, that's a lot of IBs.

If your IB scores are good, then your chances improve a lot.

You can do a portfolio at Lewis and Clark, they might like you.

And 60 of 579 with a 3.4 is interesting... Throw us the weighted GPA for a better eval.
