A friend of mine really wants to go to UT Austin and she submitted her transcripts and everything before winterbreak so it's been about 2 weeks? However, she checked her status and NONE of her transcript or anything have been recieved. She called the undergraduate admissions and they said they are swamped with transcripts and probably won't get to them all in time. They said that even so all parts of her application including the transcripts THEY said they probably won't get to must be in by the deadline Jan 15! When she told me this it just didn't sound right? Why should students be affected by how fast admissions can get to transcripts? I'm hoping the person she called gave her the wrong information.

You misinterpreted what was said, and I hope you haven't stirred your friend into a pointless outrage. She is not going to be denied because they haven't finished going through their mail. If they expected to have processed her transcripts by January 15, they would have set a deadline of about December 15 for her to submit them. She's done her part. Now she needs to relax and let the Admissions people do their job (bear in mind that they were off work for most of the same time she was off school).

After they finish processing the entire onslaught (thousands) of last-minute applications, if her transcripts or other school forms are missing from her file, they will contact her and give her time to resubmit them. They gave her months to get her application in; surely she can give them a few weeks to process it. In the meantime, if you freak out on her behalf and stir her into a panic, you are doing her a disservice. It would be much better to remind her of the sheer volume of mail they're working through (with limited staffing) and reassure her that she's in by the deadline. She's done all that she needs to do, except give them some time to sort it all out.

Yeah, I told her not to worry and that as long as she submitted everything before the deadline she should be alright, thanks!

Glad to hear it. Good luck to both of you!
