A friend's chances at Ivy?

I'm planning on Ithaca, but I have a friend who's interested in Yale and Stanford. He doesn't know about this website yet, and maybe I can help him out. Here's what I know about him; tell me what you think:

GPA: 4.0 unweighted, not sure what it is weighted, probably around a 4.2 or 4.3

Scores:
SAT I: 2110
Critical Reading: 680
Math: 750
Writing: 680

ACT: 36

SAT II Chinese: Something in 740s, I think.

Advanced Classes:
AP U.S. History (got a 5)
AP Calc AB (got a 5)
AP English Lang (got a 5)
Physics hon
Chemistry hon
Alg II/Trig
English honors for all of high school
Spanish 1-4
World history hon
Next year:
AP Euro history
AP Microeconomics
AP English Lit
AP Biology

And I think Calc II and III at Coloradod School of Mines.

EC/Other:
NHS
Swim team
Math and writing tutor
Works as lifeguard for a few years

A good amount of awards, too. Most Outstanding Junior at our school, and some sort of math/science awards, I believe. Nothing national though, only state-wid.

I don't know, what do you think?

Oh, his class rank is 1/374, unweighted, like 3 weighted.

And he's upper middle-class Chinese from Colorado.

Well he needs to take the MathIIC and some kind of Science SAT2. Tell him to turn in the 36 on the ACT, and not turn in the SAT scores. The 36 looks much better than 2110.

Valedictorian, great ACT score, decent ECs. In at either Yale or Stanford. Maybe both if he's lucky.

Those ECs don't stand out enough to me to put him into HYPS. There's a much better chance at say Brown, Cornell, and Dartmouth. Great essay could get him in though.

Good luck to you and your friend.

^ i agree with both posters. send in the ACT score, and better EC's would give him a very good chance at both Stnfrd. and Yale.

Yeah, no one's just "in" at Yale and Stanford. Stanford and Yale have turned out applicants more qualified than your friend, OP. Your friend still seems to have great chances though, if he can take a few other SAT IIs and score 800s on those. ECs are kind of average and common for HYPS.

Your "friend," eh?
