Hi guys,

I am planning on applying this year to Berkeley, but I do not have any arts course during high school. One is required as per the "A-G Requirements." Does this make it impossible/useless for me to apply? Can I make up an arts course at the school if accepted or over the summer before college to meet the requirement?

Thanks!

I believe the rule is that each requirement must be satisfied by the end of senior year (May/June 2010). The same thing happened to me (I’m currently a sen10r!), I realized way too late that I still hadn’t fulfilled the arts requirement and couldn’t fit it into my schedule with five AP classes (those classes are only offered at certain periods, the arts classes are only offered at certain periods, those periods overlapped). I decided to keep my five AP classes and instead and instead, fulfill the requirement at a community college.

For the Spring of 2010, look at your nearest community college’s catalog. You’ll need a 3 unit (3 unit is key!) class THAT IS UC APPROVED in dance, drama/theater, music or visual art. Examples of this is art appreciation, theater history, music history, and dance appreciation. I am now taking “History World Theater 1”.

I hope this is what you’re looking for!

Oh, one last thing: on your application, make sure you have the course you have chosen listed in your 12th grade classes section under Visual/Performing Arts. The class grade should be “planned”.
Good luck!
