A-G Requirement Question

I’m a junior right now out of state, looking to apply. According to their website I need a 3.4 GPA but I also can’t get lower than a C. Back in 8th grade, I had a ■■■■■■ teacher, and I got a C- for an overall year grade, and a D for one of the quarters. As of now, I’m in Precalc and I got a B+ average in Algebra 2. Would UC deny my application for the C- in 8th grade, since the class was the highschool equivalent, but a year earlier?

I wouldn’t worry too much about it if I were you. If you took the class in high school and did better, then that’s great. UC’s don’t really care as much for the 9th and below grades as they do your 10th+ grades.

Besides, I got a D in a major A-G class (APUSH, and in the most important year!) and still got accepted to most of the UC’s I applied to. So don’t worry too much.

Thanks, that sure relieves some stress. I also only have 1 semester of art classes but UC’s require 2 semesters. I was planning to take AP Psych next semester but I might have to switch it to an art. Can I take an art senior year and still get accepted?

Yes, you can take ART senior year. On the UC application you need to list senior classes in progress or planned.
Here is a UC/CSU course matrix which may help http://www.ucop.edu/agguide/a-g-requirements/files/UC_CSU%20ComparisonMatrix.pdf

I assume you know about out of state tuition - and the fact there will be no financial aid. You should also know that a 3.4 is the stated minimum but, due to competition, that won’t get you into most campuses.

That will show you the freshman class profile for all the UCs. As an OOS applicant, you’ll want to be above average.

Good luck
