A-G requirements & GPA CSU Cal State Apply Questions

Hello!
I was hoping someone could help me out with a few questions I have on my brothers CSU application.
So we entered all his high school grades and like many others, we had the issue of some courses not being categorized under their proper A-G category so we had to input them manually. My question is, after inputing all the grades and corresponding category, where it says Total Years: 15 (which is the requirement) but his says 18.5 years. Is this a problem? I am not sure if we can leave it like this with his total years exceeding the requirement. I’m wondering if maybe we put some extra courses like Econ & Physical Science under area G when they were not supposed to go there? If he has completed the 1 course required for area G but he also took 2 others, we would label them as G’s even though they’d exceed the requirement correct?

Also, the GPA calculated on the website is 3.2. However, nowhere on his transcript do I see a 3.2 GPA. His cumulative GPA is 3.03, CSU GPA 3.17, CAL GRANT GPA 3.20 (But I don’t think the school uses this GPA, correct?)

Last question, some courses such as Health, PE, and Computer Tech have no assigned A-G categories because we are not sure if they count towards credit? Is it okay to leave them without a corresponding letter?

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help!

@student9876: It is great that you are helping your brother so I will try to answer your questions.

  1. The CSU’s requires a minimum 15-unit pattern of courses for admission as a first-time freshman. Each unit is equal to a year of study in a subject area. So if your brother has 18.5 years, it means he exceeds the minimum 15 a-g courses which is very common for most applicants so not an issue.

  2. He can look up his HS’s courses and the correct categories in which they should be listed here. Just type in the HS name.

  1. I would go by the Cal state apply GPA of 3.2 since some HS’s do not calculate the correct CSU GPA since they may have a different weighting scale for their transcripts.

  2. Health, PE and Computer Tech are not a-g courses so they should be not be listed on the application.

Any more questions, you can send me a PM or post on this website. Best of luck to your brother and he should be the one posting the questions.
