A Gbit? For me?

"A modern college-wide network infrastructure provides the College with robust wired and wireless networks. Wireless Ethernet is available across the College. All network wall jacks provide at least 100 Megabit Ethernet connectivity and many locations provide Gigabit Ethernet as well. High speed network backbones connect all of the buildings in the College and also provide high speed connectivity to the rest of campus, the Internet and Internet2."

Are these 100Mbit and Gbit connections available to everyone without an academic need, on a drop in basis? Or is it something I have to signup for to get a time slot, to be used for research or something like that? Or are there just hardly any available? Are any other restrictions placed on its usage? That kind of magnitude of bandwidth isn't cheap, I simply can't imagine that there can be so much that who ever wants it can use it.

Pretty sure the 100/1000 connections are just LAN. I don’t think their internet connections are that fast…yet

So yea you can most likely get the 100/1000 speeds anytime on the LAN since thats not much of a modern feat. The majority of modern LAN networks are that speed.

Ah okay. What kind of internet speeds to they have on campus generally?
