A girl from Delhi needs help

ohhhh stop being so mean u guys. Cant you see she has enough problems already? Anyways, yes it is true that the UCs require SATs. Why dont you just submit the scores you have and apply at the UCs I listed?

ohhh wait u mean the SAT subject tests?? yeah UCs require those. Actually two of those. Well apply at the CSUs. They dont even require SAT 1 though it does improve your chances of getting accepted. I suggest San Jose State University. Its a good college especially for engineering.

Try looking into Eastern Washington University in Washington State and Merrimack College in Massachusetts.

Northern Illinois University might also be a good choice.

thanks a Lot . My list so far is :-
1)Drexel
2)RPI
3)Purdue
4)Ga Tech (only if my SAT score reaches 1800)
5)UIUC (" " )
6)Minnesota State university - Mankato
7)UMN - twin cities
8)Virginia Tech
9)UCSB
10)Washington state university
11)University of washington - Seattle

Feel free to edit my list and thanks for the advice

People have given you suggestions!

remember UCSB requires SAT IIs and i still think you should include san jose state.

thanks . I will remove UCSB and replace with san jose state .

Last query :-

I know this Q is foolish , but i really want to know . Do you people think I can get into a good university (for example - UMichigan - Which is my aim ) ? if then which one will that be ? (Purdue , UIUC , Ga Tech , UT- Austin , UMichigan ) ?

Thanks a lot , again .

I’m going to UMich, but I don’t think you’ll get in (infact, for engineering I think it’s fair to say you really have no shot at all). I would imagine the same for the others you listed, but I don’t actually know what UIUC is.

You really should check out Michigan Tech though.

Average at UMich engineering is a 3.9 GPA and a 31 ACT (about 2040 SAT).

Get your SAT scores up, then you should look for colleges.

There is not point in getting hassled right now. Just get your scores up.

I’m pretty certain that waterloo and toronto are out of your reach :-/

ok :frowning:

I just wanted to make a list as the apps are already out ( so that I can work on them , mostly the essay part of it ) .

So which ones should I apply from these (and the app fees for the other uni’s will be donated )

1)Purdue
2)UT-Austin
3)UMichigan
4)University of Illinoi - UC
5)Georgia tech

Am I screwd that bad ? ( I am really **** scared , I dont know what to do … I have started studyibg for my SAT’s and I hope that I get a good score)

If none of these elite uni’s accept me , which good-but-not-great university for engineering should be my option ?

Thanks a lot , again.

Priyanka, those places you’ve listed are MEGA reaches with your numbers. I would suggest applying to just one, maybe two, of those places, and concentrating on lower tier universities instead.

Priyanka, the universities you’ve listed are among the top ten engineering schools in the country. My suggestion to you would be to subscribe to US NEWS AND WORLD REPORT premium edition and pick some schools in the bottom 100 list and work your way up after researching them. Good luck in your search and try to pick some safeties before applying to these very high reaches which you mentioned.

thanks tetrisfan . I will try and improve my SAT score . All I want to know is which is the best engineering college i can get into with my stats (as a few universities suggested are too low in rankings , tier 3 and 4 ) . I am working hard and i feel that i deserve a better university due to an upward trend (grade 12 + a bit of improvement in SATs … which is not great but OKish).

Thanks again tetrisfan , gary7 and mustang for helping me out throughout .

I have made a list … it would be great if someone can edit it out for me !

My List :- (15 universities , in order of preference)
1)UMich
2)Ga Tech
3)UIUC
4)Purdue
5)UT - Austin
6)Penn State
7)Virgina Tech
8)Texas A&M
9)UMN - Twin cities
10)Cal Poly - SLO
11)Case Western
12)Arizona state university
13)San Jose state university
14)RPI
15)Minnesota State University - Mankato

I don’t need financial aid … my stats are on the first page

Dunno about the others, but I think 1,3,4 and 4 are some of the colleges which I was suggested as ‘top colleges’, so maybe they are a lil out of reach for you?

I second the above statement.

*1,3,4 and 6

With regards to Purdue I’ve seen people with 1300ish SAT scores get in.
I agree it wasn’t for EE but…still.
Ditto with Ga Tech and Penn State.

Infact a guy in my school, similar stats, a lower sat (1360 and 1410), this year got into Penn State and Purdue. Although again, not for EE.
Yeah yeah it is a top school, it is difficult to get in but heck I have many other living examples too.

Try and apply for some other engineering major you improve your chances significantly
.
U Mich and UIUC are a huge reach. Practically no chance.

Take a look at maybe Drexel and Northeastern. They’ve even got co-op programs.

And I’m just naming these colleges cuz I’ve seen lots of people with similar/worse stats get in.
