There is no obligation to play the sport at all. It would be pretty tacky to not at least give it a try, though.

me and my two friends are recruits for swimming

CD-

Did you and your friends get likely letters? Boys or girls? I hear the girls' team is better.

How does one become a recruit for a sport?

jhum111:Talk to the coach, have the coach express interest in recruiting you, do some NCAA clearinghouse jazz.

I know that in crew being recruited and then not participating is a serious issue between high school coaches and college coaches. They try and do everything they can to atleast make you play freshman year, and when you do quit, to make you feel as bad as possible/guilt trip you. I know at Duke they called the parents in and sat them down and yelled at them for half an hour when someone's daughter only rowed for 1 season out of the 12 you have in college (fall/winter/spring).

bulldog- we're all guys, one got a likely letter way back in october....because he had all his testing and apps in real early.....i just sent my scores in monday so i may or may not get one....i emailed the coach but its thanksgiving break.

jhum- i sent my times in on the penn swimming site back in march, not thinking id get word .....next thing i know i get a phone call

oh and if youre a recruit, worst thing to do is quit right away....it makes your school look real bad

does penn even have a hockey team? or even intramurals for that matter?

"A charter member of the Ivy League, Penn offers intercollegiate competition for men in 17 sports, including baseball, basketball, cross country, fencing, football, golf, lacrosse, heavyweight rowing, lightweight rowing, soccer, sprint football, squash, swimming and diving, tennis, indoor track, outdoor track and wrestling. It offers intercollegiate competition for women in 16 sports, including basketball, cross country, field hockey, fencing, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, rowing, soccer, softball, squash, swimming and diving, tennis, indoor track, outdoor track and volleyball. During the 2003-2004 academic year, there were 8587 team members participating in 422 intramural teams in 12 sports; 1000 additional students were members of 33 club sports."

in other words... no

haha, i can always do intramural, i'd get killed in intercollegiate ice hockey anyway... i'm too small :(

besides Basketball, what other sports are pretty competitive and popular at Penn?

I've been wondering that myself. I'd imagine the atmosphere isnt anything like say Duke, but at Penn do students get that flavor of school spirit because of sports? Or is academic pressure evident all the time?

For very selfish reasons i hope its a very small chance of people who recieve these likely letters. Any idea what percent of admits are composed of the recruits?

im sure theres a good percentage but not that high

any recruited athletes from last year on here?
