I am new to this website and have decided to post a forum so you guys can help me with something.
I will be entering my final year in High School(scary I know) and as I am getting ready for classes and final SAT and ACT's I do have some other thoughts in my mind.

I want to major in International Studies or International Relations, but I have a 2.8 Unweighted GPA and a 3.0 Weighted GPA. I'm not going to lie and say I had a hard life or anything. It's just that I noticed how important a education is a little to late.

So far I have been interested in The University of Redlands International Relations program and Pepperdine University(a very long stretch away) International Studies program. I know SDSU has a Minor in International Studies, but if I can I really would prefer to pursue a Major.

Now, by now I probably have had many click backs or skip throughs so I would like to end with these last few questions. Does anyone know of a good school that has a good I.S or I.R Major? Does anyone know of a good school in California(can also be out of state)? Has any one Majored in I.S or I.R?How were your experiences in school and where do you work now?

Thank you all, for taking time to answer my questions or simply read this far. I know my chances are not high, but, I'm not giving up just yet.

Oh i’m sorry, I should have clarified that. Yes I will be in-state for California(apparent in the colleges mentioned). My family can afford a 4 year college at a reasonable price(This is not set but around $15,000-$22,00). I am unaware as to how much exactly my family could afford but they have given me choice on where to apply but it would much preferred if it were cost efficient.

I don’t know about California colleges, unfortunately, but know that if all else fails you have the option of community college, then transferring to a college that has a good IR program. You may have a better chance that way, provided you receive a good GPA at the CC.

Apply to the Cal States and see how it goes.

SDSU is impacted so it will be tough to get in there and your grades don’t really give you a whole lot of options. Check out CSU San Marcos, it is in SD County but I don’t know if it has your major. Fullerton and Northridge might be options for you.

Fill out a FAFSA form in July; maybe you can get additional monies for college.

Have your parents run the NPCs on your schools’ calculators. You wont likely qualify for any scholarships, and most schools dont meet need, so you need to figure out what is affordable.

NPC stands for Net Price Calculator. Essentially, you go to the website of the school you’re interested in, plug some of your parents’ financial information into the calculator and it gives you a rough estimate for how much your family will be expected to contribute. Just be aware that if there is something unusual in your financial situation (divorced parents, own a farm or small business, own other property etc.) the calculator may not be very accurate.
