Hi, Im a soon to be junior and im starting to think more and more about colleges and all that good stuff. I'ma white lowere middle class suburban kid, but I am also a first generation applicant. My grades are very good and Im taking the the most rigorous course load my school offers. I was just wondering is being first generation, along with academics and ECs, a good enough hook to get into higher end schools? Thanks in advance, Adam

try to get really involved in one or two EC's. like a sport, or music. They love that. or maybe try one very UNIQUE EC.

First generation is mostly an advantantage to URM, inner city applicants. However, if you have great grades, high SATs and great ECs,,first generation is another nice tilt factor.

if my mom didn't go to college but my dad did, am i first generation?

mathwiz, I dont think you are a first generation if your dad went to college

mathwiz, you're not first gen, both of your parents must have never attended college for you to be first gen

oooooooooh..... oh well.
