A good idea to major in Comp science?

Hi. I am planning on going to TCNJ for college and want to become a doctor.
SAT: 2050 GPA: 4.65
I am interested in computer science since I love computers, but I would rather be a doctor. Do you think it would be a bad idea to major in computer science and minor in latin? Latin because the language really helps with your grasp of the english language. I already applied to the biology major at TCNJ, but i was searching for a major that wasn't so....repetitive, cuz everyone's a bio major and I wanted to major in something different. I would most likely do the IMM prorgram at TCNJ for comp science, but I don't know how good it is. Computer science will also be something that I could fall back on and maybe even like better than becoming a doctor, but idk yet. And if i was planning on majoring in computer science, should I go to a different school or just stay at TCNJ? I have visited TCNJ and I love it. Any advice?

All you need for medical school are the premed prerequisites: a year of bio, 2 years of chemistry including organic, a year of calculus, a year of physics, and a year of English. You can combine these courses with any major you please. Choose something you like and are good at, because med schools look at your overall GPA.

I know its hard to tell but, overall, is majoring in computer science harder than majoring in bio? Would it be slightly easier to have around a 3.7 GPA with comp science major rather than with a bio major? I just wanna know cuz majoring in comp science is a fresh idea for me

Computer science departments vary among schools, so it’d be a good idea to maybe email the department at TCNJ or whatever other schools you’re looking at. For example, my school 's CS is very theoretically oriented, whereas other programs might be more programming focused or systems based.

Also, remember that as a pre-med you have a certain set of classes that you have to take, including the dreaded organic chemistry and such. I would imagine these would have more overlap with a biology major than a computer science major, so that pursuing both CS and pre-med would eat up a lot of your time and squeeze out electives that you might want to take.

Would it take a longer time to finish college? I would like to finish college in under 3 years. Would pursuing with a major in comp science, minor in latin increase that time since I dont think it overlaps with biology. Or should i rather, major in bio and minor in comp science?

jkidd16, you need to talk to your academic advisor, who will know exactly how much AP credit you have and how best to use it. If there’s a premed advisor at TCNJ, that might be a good person to talk to as well.
