A Good Read for Grammar

Hi,

I’m not about to take a standardized test or anything, but I’m a business major and two things that I want to focus on a lot during the holidays are speaking and writing with perfect grammar. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a single book that is comprehensive enough to make me an expert at the language. I used grammarly and english-grammar-revolution; both of these sites are great. But when I test myself at majortests.com, I’m not where I want to be at. I know I shouldn’t worry about this site because these problems are a lot harder than anything I will ever see on a standardized test. Majortests average scores also suck, so that should be another reason why I shouldn’t be too upset about my scores.

I also tend to make mistakes when I speak such as:

I seen that movie yesterday.

Yeah, so many years of not caring about speaking perfect grammar cause me from time to time to accidentally make that embarrassing mistake.

If you’re looking for a great grammar reference book, my favorite is Diana Hacker’s Rules for Writers. It’s very well organized and thorough, and it includes some useful excercises.

@marvin100 Great recommendation. The book has a rating of 4.5 stars and over 650 pages according to Amazon. This might be the book for me.
