A Good Reason Not to Take an AP Freshman Year

I was forced into an AP Class by my father lol in 9th. I didn't have a good teacher for AP Human, first year ever teaching and we had about an A a quarter except for the last one. She was a tough teacher, much tougher than the other AP Human Teacher. I took the exam last year, I got a 3, was ok... with the score. I was bored one day, and nothing to do and I thought to see if I'd remember anything from last year out of complete boredom?

I see the MC Released Exam and look over the questions and answer them real quick, and I missed barely ANY! LOL. Definitely enough for a 5. I couldn't believe it, I did better now without looking at the subject for a year, and did worse last year.

Luckily I did ok last year.. but I could of done BETTER! It shows most 9th graders new to high school aren't ready for AP yet. For some reason our minds aren't ready lol. For instance I saw a bunch of questions on the exam from things I learned in my World History H Class at school on it. So basically if I took it this year instead of last year I could of done much better, plus I would of gotten the better teacher since my teacher stopped teaching it after one year. I'm not whining about this, I'm just trying to give advice to freshman looking at AP Classes to take. Wait at least until your in 10th, then you'll be ready. If you take AP Human Geo, it can be an extremely easy course if you wait until 10th when you start learning more history.

Now I feel like taking the exam again :P

It’s more about your approach. For example, I took AP Bio in 9th grade and got a 4. I’m sure I could have gotten a 5, but my teacher didn’t teach anything and I started studying way too late. I don’t think it’s so much that you’re not mature enough or you haven’t learned enough, but moreso that you have not had enough experience with AP to know what kind of commitment is necessary.

At my school we are only allowed to take Human Geo. The specific subject I’m talking about is way better to take in 10th, you can see that’s why the average is so low for the exam for Human Geo on College Board. This year getting all A’s and I’m on top of things. I’m doing 4 AP’s I’m not even worried about, b/c I know I can handle it now since I had AP Course load before.
