<p>I recently took the January 2011 SAT and scored a 2060 (690 CR, 680 M, 690 W [10]). Is this a good score for a 9th grader? I studied a little bit by going through the blue book and doing the practice problems. However, I didn't take any sort of practice test for preparation. I also plan to take the March SAT. It may seem excessive for someone so young to be taking the test twice, but I'm doing it as a requisite for admissions to a prestigious public magnet school (applying to start as a sophomore). What score should I shoot for my second time around? I'm going to take a prep course which will help give me necessary practice (5 practice tests). </p>

<p>EDIT: I understand that multiple takes of the SAT can be detrimental to your college application. Do you think I'll be able to let my prospective colleges know about my special circumstance (taking for high school admission)? I don't want the multiple takes to hurt my chances of being admitted to a top college.</p>
<p>Shoot for the highest score you can get, since then you’ll:
a) not have to retake the SAT when you’re closer to applying to college
b) still have another shot if you do need one (usually up to three is acceptable)
c) be as competitive as you can for your school.</p>
<p>Thanks for the input. What score range do you suppose I’ll be looking at (assuming I’m going to study rigorously)? I’d be very happy with a 2300+ and somewhat content with a 2200-2290.</p>
<p>^while a 2200+ is great and you should be happy with that, if you’re getting over 2000 now, I think you’ll have no problem getting a 2300+ by the time you’re a junior.</p>
<p>I really wouldnt say taking it too many times is detrimental. But yeah thats fine thats what i got freshman year and i ended up with a 2290. Make sure you try to get national merit on the PSAT too</p>
<p>Thanks for the help, guys. Like I said, I’m aware of the negative effects taking it 3+ times, but I’m obligated to take it due to the application process of the high school I’m applying too. Hopefully, come junior year, I’ll have the opportunity to clear things up with the schools I’m applying to. I plan to take it one more time this year, and once junior year. Then I’ll only have taken it 3 times, which doesn’t seem to be too detrimental. Thoughts?</p>

<p>@OP, this is a great score for a freshman you can probably easily make 2300+. @Kariman, thats the average score, so you could take it to about a 2000, I suggest going through the SAT books by Barrons.</p>
<p>Yes. That is a good score for a 9th grader. Keep practicing. Keep track of the questions you get wrong and learn how to answer them correctly or recognize them and skip 'em. You are off to a great start! Best of luck.</p>
<p>Kariman, got somewhere around there 8th grade or so, and I got a 2070 on my last one, and just took it again, and I barely studied. You can definitely get to 2000, you’ve got plenty of time.</p>
<p>Depends on how much prep you have done, but 2000 is definitely very very good for a freshman. You’ll definitely break 2200 by junior year if you put in more work. Heck I doubt you will need to do much more practice, since English/Math classes at school are probably enough to raise your score naturally without studying.</p>
<p>I noticed the date, but I figured I’d ease Kariman’s mind haha. It will be interesting to see the score comparison from your first to now, at least. I can’t wait to see my most recent score.</p>
<p>In accordance with JuniorMint’s prediction, I just received a 2400. So in ~22 months, I gained the intellectual maturity and test-taking skills to go from a 2060 to a 2400. I’m pretty elated.</p>
<p>WOW!! Great job Studious! As it happens, my kid received the exact same score her Freshman year. What did you do to raise your score so incredibly high? She has the Blue book but hasn’t done any real practice tests and she scored a 211 on the PSAT also as a Freshman. Don’t think she will take the SAT 1 again until junior year but may take SAT subject test in Math 2 and World History as she will be finished with those the end of this year. Anyhow- what was your study/prep plan?</p>
