A Good Sign??

My D had all her referrals, test scores, fee and applications into CU-Boulder by mid-August. Her application status was changed to read "Your application is complete and being reviewed by the admissions committee" on August 25. Thought we might be hearing something by the end of this month.

Then this evening (11/12) I get an email from the University of Colorado Undergraduate Admissions telling me that they "are delighted that (my D) has applied for admission and that you think that UC - Boulder is a place where (my D) can be successful." The letter goes on and on describing all the advantages of a UC - Boulder education. It ends with "we hope to hear from you soon!"

They have had my daughters completed application for 3 months and they send this now? They wouldn't dare send out an email like this with the decisions right around the corner if the decision wasn't positive would they? Anyone else have any experience along these lines?

Nuts
Just found our my D’s decision was delayed until April 1
Let me say for the record that this is a pretty poor stunt to pull on CU-Boulder’s part. A letter to both parents “thanking you” for your daughter’s application, followed by an extended list of the virtues of CU-Boulder and encouragement to contact them soon. Then, 24 hours later, a notice saying your daughter’s admission was delayed.

Hi there. I’m a parent of a student trying to get into CU Boulder in the Fall of 2015. We received the same email letter from the Director of Admissions on Wednesday evening. However, when my son’s status was updated yesterday, it also postponed his admissions decision until April 1st. I am upset by this. I don’t understand why a letter was sent at all because my husband and I thought it was a clear indication of immediate interest. Do you know the stats on how many students are usually accepted through early decision at Boulder? What about the percentages of those accepted after postponement? Thanks.

Odd. I got my admission notification today from CU. I’m wondering why they would delay the notification to a select few. Here’s my guess: they are on the fence and want to view the strength of the entire applicant pool before they decide. I could be wrong though. What are your d’s stats? @Eland1, CU accepts 93% of early apps and 85% of regular apps I believe. Also, if your ds are in state look up the guaranteed admission criteria for CU boulder.

Also, did the message say anything about a request for more information? Quite a few students are delayed because they want to see mid-year grades.

Hi there, thanks for the reply. Congratulations on your acceptance. My son has good grades (3.75 overall), is an athlete, in a Biomedical Sciences program, NHS, etc. I suspect his downfall for the early admission was a lower ACT score on the English, (but thankfully, very high on the Math). We are also from out of State. His first quarter grades just came out and thankfully were all A’s. I already had the guidance office forward them to CU on Friday. After reading up a little on the “postponed decision” process, I think you are absolutely correct, they want to compare him to the other applicant pool and see mid semester grades and perhaps a new set of scores. We’ll keep our fingers crossed. He loved Boulder and it really would be a great fit for him. Best of luck to you!

Thanks. Interesting, but I can’t imagine he won’t get accepted. Admission into a state school from out of state is tad bit more difficult for CU, but not drastically (like the UC system). I’m just shocked they would need more info based on your sons stats, it seems like they would just accept him right away. It’s also possible they do this to quite a few students. I’ll ask my college counselor tomorrow and report back with more info; she’ll be able to shed some more light on how often this happens. Don’t be discouraged by this, like I said earlier I’m sure he’ll be accepted. Boulder is an amazing city, I fell in love with it right away also. The campus is amazing and of course CU is academically renowned. Best of luck to you son!

That is so nice of you. Thank you so much. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I just hate the waiting game.

@Eland1, I heard back from my college counselor today. She said CU received a high number of EA applicants this year, and because it is a state university they need to insure there are enough spots available for Colorado residents who apply regular decision. To do this, they delayed the decision on a great number of out of state applicants. She says this happens every few year or so, and its just a precaution. Your sons chances are still very high.

heyhey2034 Wow. Thank you for the great information! That explains a lot. Your parents must be thrilled for you as well as very proud. Your willingness to reach out to Admissions on my son’s behalf was so kind of you. I’ll be sure to post again when we have an update.

@Eland1 No problem, happy to help. I look forward to hearing updates, and best of luck to you and your son!

Has anyone heard about regular decisions to CU Boulder yet this year?

@Eland1‌ , my son submitted his application on January 15, and received acceptance notification on February 2, if I am not mistaken, good luck to everyone who is still waiting for admission decision
