I have a GPA of arround 3.0, and a SAT score of 2050. I'm not looking for some kind of ivy league school, but a decent university like CUNY, University of South Carolina, or Clemson. I did bad my freshman year and failed 2 classes, Spanish and Geometry. Mostly duo to me being pretty immature during that time period. I did retake them and make B's in them so this is how my transcript goes like

8th Grade

Algebra I - C(83)
English I - B (90)

9th Grade

Geo - F retake (C)
Spanish I - F retake (B)
World History H - B (89)
Biology H - B (88)
English II H - C (82)

10th grade

Physics H - B (87)
Chem I H - B (90)
Gov/Econ H - B (86)
Alg II H - B (91)

11th Grade

ALG III H- B(86)

12th grade

Hopefully All A's, lol.

I do have a steady trend of going up in grades, but my Freshman year is pretty much killing my GPA and it kind of makes me depressed, but I just want to go to a decent state university for now. Really, I want one in the south east or the Newyork City region.

My home state is SC, but I have a home in Newyork and we still pay loans and taxes for the house. I have a budget of around 20-30k per year. Yeah if you factor out my 2 F’s during freshman year, my UW GPA is arround a 3.6 or so. I really hope the colleges will look past my freshman year and look at the next years, which are fantastic.

I’m out of state, and had a 3.06 GPA at one of the top public schools in America (had a 3.7 senior year), got a 2010 on my SAT so you’ve definitely got a shot at Clemson - just gotta get good grades since colleges do love that upward trend

Owning a home in another state does NOT give you instate status. I own properties in a few states, yet my kids only have “instate” status in the state where our home is where we LIVE.

your budget will restrict you since only a limited number of schools will give you merit with a sub 3.5 GPA and your SAT. There are schools that will accept you, but their cost will be beyond $30k.

Alabama would probably accept you since you retook those failed classes, but the cost would be a bit above $30k.

What is your Math + CR score?

What does your transcript say is your GPA???

I really don’t know what you are saying, in the OP I said I’m a senior atm with a GPA of 3.0 and planning on making it stay a 3 or raise it to a 3.1, and the tution for USC is 12k a year and CUNY is also pretty cheap. Why are you telling me to go the University of Alabama? My Math + CR score is around 1500. I’m not trying to pass off as rude, but it just makes no sense.

You should check out the public universities in South Carolina for in-state cost.

There are some public universities in other states which have out-of-state costs within your $30,000 per year limit. The SUNYs are mostly pretty close to or slightly over that limit for out-of-state.

Hey, I’m talking about colleges like these, I don’t know how accurate cappex is but I heard good things about it. My house is near these areas, so I can pretty much drive their or take a subway…

You asked what state school you could get go with your stats and you gave CUNYs, USouCarol, and Clemson as examples. . So, I gave you a suggestion. You seemed concern about who would accept you with a 3.0/3.1 GPA.

As for my comment about not being instate for NY was based on your comment that your family has a home there. You were answering the question about what your home state is…and you said SC and that your family owns a home in NY. I was just stating that even if you own a home in NY, you’d still be considered OOS.

If you want to stay instate then great…you have good choices.

You have a 2050. You’re saying that you have a 1500 M+CR? Does that mean that your W score was 550?

is that weighted or unweighted? Because my Weighted GPA is pretty high, duo to all the AP and honor weighting. I don’t think I can even get into Clemson, really. I don’t have 3 consecutive foreign language classes, for obvious reasons. Well, thanks for the advice. Let’s see where God puts my luck, lol.

But I agree his chances aren’t the best for Clemson but I wouldn’t rule him completely out. Take a look at the University of South Carolina as well - their admissions standards are a lot easier than Clemson

Thank you Pierre, my GPA fits around that range if you use a SC GPA. You have been very helpful to me, and I hope your uni years go well and you go to a good grad school.
