A good university in NY?

So my main goal right now is to be accepted into a university in New York, and I really want to get into NYU. But based on my current scores in the second semester of my freshman year (not finalized) I’m not sure of my chances of getting in NYU. Please be honest, and if it’s not likely that I will get into NYU, can you list some other universities in the state or new york city that you think is also good? Thank you.

First semester (freshman year, hs) :
-Accel Bio : 91.33%
-Accel Geometry : 90.69%
-CP English honors : 92.3%
-Online health : 97.56%
-P.E. : 100%
-Spanish 1 : 97%
-World Geography Honors : 92.8%

Second semester
-Accel Bio : 89.09%
-Accel Geometry : 94.33%
-CP English honors : 89.76%
-P.E. : 99.31%
-Spanish 1 : 97%
-World Geography honors : 92.41%

As you can see, my biology and english grades really dropped. Although the grades aren’t finalized, I would still like to know if there’s a chance. I’m trying my best to get them back up to a 90.

Come back your junior year when you have SAT/ACT scores.

Why does it have to be in NY state? NY is a big state. Open a map. CT, NJ, and PA are closer to NYC than western upstate NY state.

What is it EXACTLY is it that u need?

Not knowing anything about your interest and assuming you know about SUNYs or CUNYs, here’s a list off the top of my head:

NYC Area:
NYU
Columbia / Barnard (women’s)
Fordham
The New School
Sarah Lawrence
Pratt (Art institute)
Cooper Union

NYS, most of these are pretty far from NYC:
Vassar
Union
Skidmore
Hamilton
Colgate
Bard
Cornell
Rochester Tech
Syracuse
Ithaca
Rensselaer

By NY do you mean NY city or the state. Big difference.

The OP said state or City, because I sense the OP has inadequate grasp of geography.

Maybe they live there and want to stay in-state? Would make tons of sense, if so. Lots of people do that.

That only makes sense for public colleges. The OP is interested in NYU-- which is not public.

As I discussed earlier, NY is a big state. Depending on where you are in NY state, a neighboring state can be closer than other parts of NY state. From NYC, Yale is closer than Cornell.

Montclair State and Stevens are right by NYC.
Manhattan College is right in NYC. As are Baruch or CCNY- both are 99% commuter. CSI is on Staten Island and has an actual campus with residence halls.
NJIT, Marist, St Bonaventure, Siena, SUNY Purchase, SUNY New Paltz are all close enough to the City.

Why NYU, perhaps the most overrated (and expensive) college in the US?

CUNY colleges, besides CCNY
Wagner on Staten Island
Iona
Wells
Stony Brook
NYU has Gallatin and Liberal Arts. Both take lower scores, I think. Gallatin is like the Hampshire College of NYU in that you create your own course of study. the Liberal Arts program is for people with lower scores. The program eases you into the NYU larger community.

“Why NYU, perhaps the most overrated (and expensive) college in the US?”

I can’t think of many better places to be if you are in performing arts.

It’s a big state with every tier of college you could possibly want. Work hard. Take standardized tests. Visit a few. And neighboring PA is loaded too, as others have said.

“I can’t think of many better places to be if you are in performing arts.”

True, but op apparently doesn’t care about that.

Are you requesting colleges in New York state (or do you mean NYC?) because you want to remain in state for tuition purposes or because you want to be close to NYC? If it’s the latter, know I live considerably closer to NYC here in Boston than when I actually lived in NY state. It’s a huge state.

^ not to nitpick, but Sarah Lawrence and Pace (main campus) are not in NYC.

OP needs to come back and explain why his/her “main goal right now is to be accepted into a university in New York”. What would you like to study? What is your budget?

I can just really picture myself in the city, but if it’s another city in the state, it’s fine too. It’s just cause I can see myself in that atmosphere.

I’m interested in certain areas of performing arts but it’s not my main interest. My main interest is doing business, and I hear colleges and universities in New York are good places for business majors.

I live in California. I just want to go to a highly industrialized and economical center just for the experience. I mostly want to go somewhere in the city, but another city (like Manhattan) in the state would be fine too.
