A Grammar Question

Ok, I just wanted to clarify a point about "lists".

When is it okay to use "as well as" and when is it not?
For example, is
George likes apples, bananas, as well as pears equivalent to
George likes apples and bananas, as well as pears ?

Also, are there other words/phrases that act in the same manner as "as well as"?

Thank you!

“George likes apples, bananas, as well as pears” is incorrect. “As well as” is not equivalent to “and,” which is required to complete the series.
