A heads up about Summer Session Financial Aid

I just thought I would let everyone know that is planning on taking summer session classes and are applying for financial aid for the summer. There was an error when I tried to submit my FinAid form online through finaid.ucsb.edu because there is a glitch in the system. I contacted ucsb and this is the response I got.

"There's a glitch in the system that can't be corrected now. So what I've
been told by the Financial Aid office is that you DO NOT need to submit the
FinAid form online.
Financial Aid will work off your 2007-08 FAFSA and the list I create of
new transfer students who will be starting in the summer. This list was
sent to Financial Aid on Tuesday, so they have your name.
Does this help? Doris "

So basically to apply for summer financial aid, all you need to do is have a 2007-2008 FAFSA filled out and they will take care of the rest. Just thought I would share this incase others are experiencing this problem

So will all people who fill out the FSSP application be considered for finaid as long as they turned in fafsa for fall 2008-2009?

for FSSP you need to fill out the FAFSA for 07-08 and this thread only applies to transfers i think...

when is the deadline to fill out the FAFA?

Yeah as long as you filled out a 07-08 FAFSA ( since summer 08 is still considered the 07-08 year ) and you applied for summer, they will include you in the financial aid. I believe the deadline was April 18th to submit the fafsa.

its from FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid
apparently, there are STATE deadlines.

on the brochure it said to fill out the 07-08 FAFSA, i did that last night.... i also filled out a 08-09 FAFSA for fall 08 finaid.... did i do it right.... i am planning on going to FSSP...

Yeah you did it right. Go ahead and try to fill out the online application here <a href="https://www.finaid.ucsb.edu/AidStatus/SummerLogin.asp%5B/url%5D">https://www.finaid.ucsb.edu/AidStatus/SummerLogin.asp</a> . There seemed to be problems when I tried to complete it, so according to ucsb, I just have to wait for a financial aid award.

I am going to e-mail UCSB FINAID, because I read that I had to submit the 07-08 FAFSA "as soon as possable"...... I did the FAFSA on 4/19.... If I dont get FINAID I am afraid that I will be unable to attend FSSP.... any commentts/??

Im sure you will get it, I just got my reward for financial aid today. But it won't hurt to e-mail them incase.

thank you.... when did you send your FAFSA and your online form?

Well, my 2007-2008 FAFSA was already completed since last year, so I just had to add UCSB's school code and update the online form. That was about 3 weeks ago. I never did the online form because of the glitches in the financial aid website. Yesterday I got an email notifying me that my reward is posted on the website.

I just got off the phone with UCSB FINAID and they said that the 07-08 FAFSA for FSSP is due on 6/18 (on their website it says 4/18 and that is just a mistake).......

ohh that makes sense, 4/18 seemed too soon
