I was just informed that the other kid from my school applied to Berkeley also got in. **** him, why? Because he made me feel that my going to Berkeley won't be recognized by the school as much as if I were the only one get accepted to there. Prestigious and selectivity are the two things I look for college regardless of the quality. This mother *** just ruinned my day you don't how ***ing badly.

lol, sarcasm is tasty.

You seem like some kind of peverse asian stereotype. You know the workaholic, amoral, overachieving type. I hope you change for your sake ...

i know how you feel nickzhao. fifteen other people at my school were accepted to berkeley and it just takes away the glamor of my own achievement.

Seriously, come on. If prestige and selectivity are the biggest things that you're looking for in college, you're completely missing out on the point of a college education. Where you go for undergrad doesn't really matter that much. It's what you do with your experience there that matters (or also where you go to grad/professional school).

My high school advisor once told me "College is not a prize to be won. It is a match to be made." For example, I have a friend who is currently a senior in high school and has gotten into Cal, Stanford, and Yale (among others). She is seriously considering Cal over the other two high prestige schools because she knows that the Berkeley environment is the best fit for her - she has visited frequently and absolutely loves it.

I hope for your sake that you're being sarcastic and giving us a good laugh. Otherwise, I believe Cal should have given you a rejection.

We Asians need to break our "model minority" stereotype.

That's my job on the AAA (Asian American Association) Issues Committee, sorta. We're actually holding an Asian American rock concert on Cal Day to set a good example for some future overachieving Asians.

puts on his red boxing gloves, spiked armor, diamond helmet, lucky sash, power rings, adidas shoes, and hopes to god he succeeds in cal, :O see u guys there! i hope he's being sarcastic too, i have a part of myself who feels the same way, but i don't want to let it win inside of me... education is not competition...we're jsut forced because of the job outlook :O

You should always do your best. Ganbatte, life's too short to have it judged by other people ...

Too bad. I think the people who didn't get into Berkeley is the minority at my school.

San Jose, CA... lynnbrook high?

royrules, i'm in the exact same boat. so many people from my school are going to berkeley... but honestly i don't mind as long as i'm not roomed with any of them. with 23,000 students what's the odds of seeing them around anyways? i'm happy for all of them (just a little worried though for the ones who are hoping berkeley will be like high school all over again.)

I can agree with the other two, but amoral? Different cultures have different standards of what is moral and what isn't. Also, immigrants tend to have a "I'll-do-whatever-it-takes-to-get-to-the-top" attitude, regardless of race or nationality. Italians, Irish, Koreans, Chinese, even the early British/German settlers during colonial times.

that is so true :) u gotta give us props, we suffered! :P, try living without ac for 11 years

Sorry, I connected the amoral to the mentality that you want to get ahead no matter what. I also connected amoral to the fact he mentioned he was a communist sympathizer before.

unlimtedx - spot on. How'd you know?

why is communism ammoral you republican hack , i am not definitely not defending zhao here i think he's repulsive , but why is communism ammoral

because communism takes away civic society and has only the state. There is no room for the individual to make moral decisions in a true communist state; only the commune; hence communism.

yeah and capitalism has 1 percent of the country controlling all the wealth while everyone else eats dirt. Eat that

lol, ok then

i am not a communist at all, but more of a democratic socialist and that at least tries to bridge inequalities unlike the "moral" right wing that tries to widen those inequalities ( ex. Halliburtion's no bid contracts).
