A- in Chemistry

Hey all, lately I’ve been really stressing because I might end up making an A- in PreAP Chemistry. I ended up making a B- first 6 weeks and I haven’t been able to really make any high As to raise it. My first semester average came out to be a ~90 I believe. Will making an A or A+ in AP Chem later on make up for an A- in PreAP to admission officers?

Will the same work for AP Bio? I’m in kinda the same situation there, too, because I made a C+/B- in it Regular Bio but I plan on making an A or A+ in AP.

Do you have anything to back this up, or is this just what you WANT to do? Because presumably you want an A in regular bio but that’s not happening. You’re going to need a plan if you want to make this comeback. Have you asked your teachers for suggestions on improving your grasp of the material?

I’m pretty sure colleges don’t even take into account the +/- system when determining your GPA. Meaning that A- becomes an A (yay) and that C+ becomes a C (yikes) when they recalculate everything. So I wouldn’t worry so much about the +/- and worry about actually getting over 90% in general.

I ended up making a 85-90% on the cumulative final for Biology (regular and Pre AP got the same final at my old school). The main reason why I ended up making such a low grade final grade was because I didn’t care at all about school and I never did any homework. Circumstances have changed, I no longer hang out with bad people who do bad things and I care a whole lot more now. With lots of studying over the summer and dedication I’m sure I’ll do well.

I have spoken with all of the teachers for the APs I plan on taking next year (with the exception of AP Stats, as they have not been hired yet) and the AP Bio teacher is my current PreAP Chemistry teacher, so in passing I’ll update her on how I’ve been prepping for AP Bio, or I’ll ask her about projects the class is doing and what they’ve been discussing. I asked her about prep in October of last year, if I recall correctly, and we discussed my worries due to my failures Freshman year and how I should be preparing. She was telling me that she thought I’d do extremely well in AP Bio due to my progress and was eager to have me as a junior. However, she also thinks I’m really good at Chem despite my glaring A-…

Good grasp on the material or not, I’ll still study a lot and try my hardest to get an A/A+ in AP Bio and a 5 on the exam.
