What is better getting an A in a college prep class or a B in an honors class? My GPA at the moment is a 3.85 unweighted. For top schools like the Ivies, is it true they look at your overall GPA rather than your GPA in specific classes. Am i true or false: College prep would be better because it will give you a higher unewighted and the weighted gpa of the two would be the same so college prep would be better? Thank you everyone.

The best choice is to get an A in the honors course.

If you had to choose between the two, which would you choose? Also, how much does the A in college prep hurt you? A lot, a little?

Competitive colleges will want its applicants to take the most rigorous schedule possible and do well – even if daring those classes might jeopardize your A. They don’t reward people gaming the system in order to appear that they push themselves but instead are just guarding a GPA.
