Hey, so many of my friends are getting jobs now and I would like to have one as well. However, if I had a job then I would not be able to do other things such as volunteering/extracurriculars. Do you guys think it’s better to have a job or some volunteer hours that are more meaningful?
They would be considered equally valuable by colleges.
I agree with @happy1. If you want/need money then get a job. I would consider doing it over the summer vs. in school so you have more time for studying. Volunteering can take less time per week than a job.
Also think about what you want to do in college…if you are interested in a health field, then it is good to volunteer at a hospital to see if you like the environment. If you are interested in business, then getting a job will teach you about the work environment.
