Hey guys, I'm planning on paying my deposit to the Smeal College of Business at Penn State UP soon. However, I have a question. This school has a lot of white people and I was wondering if Asians are discriminated at this school. Are there a lot of Asians here? How is the Asian atmosphere in this school?

I’ve seen a pretty good Asian population when I’ve been there (especially since they seemed to always hang out together, especially when everyone else was at the football game). But I have a feeling these were probably international students and I have no clue what you are. I have a feeling you’ll be fine.

Oh okay, thank you. I was worried because I’m a Korean American born in the States and I’ve lived most of my life hanging out with a lot of asians.

I was wondering the same thing. Where I live and at school theres a very diverse community. I am also Asian, although Pakistani, not Korean. I’m used to hanging around alot of Pakistanis as well. I was wondering if there is a decent population of Pakistanis here at Penn State? Since i will be away from home it would be comforting to be surrounded by a diverse group of people.

im korean too!

Hey Pennstate330, if you attend or planning to attend this school, do you know if there is a good amount of Koreans at this school?

Just know, Northerners are pretty harsh sometimes :P

there are lots and lots of koreans in Penn State

@studied4sat, I’m guessing your not around here by asking that. I don’t usually hear those kind of questions. But yes, there is alot of Korean(Americans) that go to Penn State Main. Friends I know of go there… Lol I can just picture how you look like now… You could probably hang out with those FOB group or those other asians who have their own social community. While the other Koreans will be the opposite of you and do things that you don’t now like… play ball or something.

*** dick much? I don’t get why you had to state it that way…

I don’t see why it should matter what nationality you hang out with. Seriously? People complain about how Penn State isn’t very diverse, and they want more diversity–and then you see people sticking with a particular group of people based on their nationality on purpose.

im korean american too
after u get a job u will work with white people
so a college where theres a lot of white people is good but i would like to hang out with my people, asians… but at the same time its good having white people in our school
i came from a school where there lots of korean americans and groups of fobs

just letting u know i might go to smeal college and im korean american …not fob btw

penn state is mostly white (almost 80%)…I’m korean american also and i chose my schools based on my major, reputation, and DIVERSITY because I feel like it is pretty important. if you really want to attend a college with more asians, then you should consider more diverse schools…what other schools are you considering?

im not sure if the first message got sent but w/e
i like diversity and Binghamton University is one college im deciding between atm

You’ll be fine! I live in state college so I’m on campus all the time and there is a quite large Asian population…I actually think there are more Asian people then African American people

I’m Chinese and headed up to Happy Valley in the fall too, and all you have to be able to do is let people take some cracks at you for being Asian and lighten up, and everyone will be cool with you. I learned it in high school: if you’re gonna be an uptight person who can’t stand having fun poked at them, then you’re probably going to have to hang out with all the Asians. But if you’re just friendly, easygoing and able to take some jokes (of course there will still be people that just aren’t friendly to you, but f*** them), you can fit in with anyone as long as you have common interests.
