Hi everyone, hope you’re all doing fine. It would be greatly appreciated if somebody could tell me the subject AP equivalence of a person who has 9 A’levels: Further Math, Math, English Language, French, World History, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, and English Literature
Do you have 9 complete A-levels? with what grades? Are these UK A-levels?
They’re complete CIE A’levels. My internal grades for the AS mids are still pending (but I’m expecting 3A*s 5As). Do you know what the AP equivalency is for the mentioned subjects though?
Each college is free to set its own parameters as it chooses. But a basic guideline is that A/A*=5 and B=4 for score equivalency. For test equivalency, math would be Calc AB, generally, and Further Math would be Calc BC. The others are pretty self-explanatory. For more specifics, you should contact the college in question.
That’s really good, as most people don’t take that many. It is probably the equivalent of about 15 AP exams. You can look up the AP exams that correspond. Each A-level covers more material than an AP exam.
If you are applying to the US, just submit the AS and predicted A-level scores and ACT or SAT I scores, as well as SAT subject test scores.
Some universities in the US have listings for A-level exams and scores, just as they do for AP exams and scores. Check university web sites.
@skieurope Actually, AS math is Calc AB, and A2 math is Calc BC (though it has a little bit more). Further Math goes beyond all of them, which is why colleges don’t give credit for them.
Thanks for your help everyone!
@InfinityMan Thanks for clarifying.
Holy mother of sheep!
9 A-levels???
You must be high or something!!! 1A-level=2APs…thus 9A-levels= 18AP’s
Seriously 9??? I did 3 A-levels (math A* Physics A* and Chem A) and I got into an ivy league school (UPenn).
But really you can’t compare A-levels to APs, as they cover much more depth and are generally harder
Every A Level is worth two college classes according to my school. Frankly, A Level chemistry covered more than just introductory chemistry at my school, but it’s still only 2 classes.
What’s the purpose of your question? Are you thinking of applying somewhere? Be aware that more than 4A levels wouldn’t be necessary but typically you get one or two courses 'equivalency per A level. 5 A levels completed with C or higher would typically give you sophomore standing although you’d apply as a freshman (and hence qualify for all the freshman scholarships)
