A Liberal Arts Major Ranking Game

It’s 2018.
You’re a 27 year old in a fast-growing, midsized NYC company. You’re hiring someone fresh out of college. BA in something. Liberal Arts. A dozen or so resumes come down to you from HR. What schools impress you most and least? Let’s keep it simple. You really don’t need more details than this.

Rank 'em based on being an East Coaster who isn’t looking for engineering, medicine. etc. This is different than US New Rankings

Midd
Vassar
Cornell
Brandeis
Colgate
Ham
Bard
NYU
Oberlin
Kenyon
Skidmore
Rochester
Bucknell
Sarah Lawrence
Delaware Honors
McCauley Honors

Thanks!

Middlebury
Cornell
Colgate
Bucknell
Hamilton
NYU
Rochester
Vassar
Brandeis
Oberlin
Kenyon
Bard
Skidmore
Deleware Honors
McCauley Honors
Sarah Lawrence

Criteria: Solid East coast reputation, combination of excellent, broad-based liberal arts and business schools, smart, well-rounded, personable students with strong track record of success in business

Wow, hard to do, given each of these schools are great and some are so close in reputation, top students, selectivity, etc.

I would go with–

Cornell-1st because it is so well known nationally and internationally. It’s also an Ivy-always prestige.

I’d probably group next–Middlebury, Colgate, Hamilton (?) and Vassar.

Next group would be-- Bucknell, NYU, Oberlin, Kenyon, Brandeis and Rochester.

The remainder at the bottom of this prestigious list.

…and forget the East Coast sensibilities

You would would go for the graduate from

Bucknell

Of course I would choose the Bucknell student first! I know she/he would be intelligent and hard working.

After that, I would go by my list.

^I would pretty much completely agree with morrismm’s list.

i’m not sure about any of the other schools… but at bucknell we can use the career development center resources for the rest of our lives (mock interviews, help with resumes, etc). hopefully even if the potential employer wasn’t aware of our reputation, the bucknell candidate would be very well-prepared.
