A little dilemma

I applied as a direct admit into EE and haven't heard back yet. I called them today and they said that they are still working on decisions and that they would not know when they would be released....anyways, my dad also called today and they told him that decision would not be sent until the end of next week. This leaves me with a bit of a dilemma because getting directly admitted into EE is the biggest factor that would influence my decision to go to UW. That being said, can I commit to UW and another school and withdraw one of those commitments once I hear back from EE? I'm not a fan doing this but my parents are pretty adamant about hearing back from them first before I make my decision.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Because the universal reply date is May 1st [this sunday] for colleges, you have to submit your intent to register to a school either on or before that day. [Be careful if you have to mail anything- you should do that before sunday, because the post is closed sundays.]

If you commit to another school before hearing back from UW [which is an extremely good thing to do in your situation from what it sounds like] and then you end up getting into EE, you can contact the school you committed to and explain your situation about how you actually ended up getting into your #1 because they hadn’t gotten back to you before the date. It is considered unethical to accept spots at two different schools, and doing so could potentially get you recinded from both.

hopefully that was helpful. :]

**if you were already accepted into UW and are waiting to hear back solely on EE, if you commit to another school, i don’t think that you’ll be able to accept UW’s offer anymore after may 1st. I’m unaware of those technicalities… you may want to call the school and ask about what their specific policy on that is.

Thank you for your help. UW isn’t my #1 choice but my parents are just adamant about hearing back before I make a decision.
