a little help on my essay

Hey I’m totally stuck in my essay, because I can’t remember the author of a quote, and it’s totally crucial to my essay (its the only quote im using, don’t worry, it’s not to show off my knowledge).

I’m pretty sure it was from a book, I’m thinking “A Prayer for Owen Meany” by John Irving, but I couldn’t find anything, so I might be wrong. It’s about growing up and says something like “when you are 12, you’re not just 12, you’re also 11, and 10, and 9, etc”. I definitely read it at school, but it might be someone different. any help?

I think theres a quote kind of like that in "Eleven" by Sandra Cisneros. i dont know if thats what you're looking for but its probably worth a try

i haven't read (or heard of) that book, so it's probably not it. but i'll give it a try. thanks :)
