A little help...

When I applied to Cal, I put down English as my intended major. Now, I'm not so sure if I want to do that. For this reason, I'm having trouble on deciding what classes I should take. I've already fulfilled the Subject A, American History, and American Institution requirements. One class that has caught my interest is Music 26AC. Other than that, I have no clue. (<<<Confused, lost).

I really want to keep my mind open, because I'm pretty sure I will change my major... that's just how I am.

I like math and science, but those subjects just aren't my strong points. History is okay. I don't like econ/govt. I love English when I understand what is going on, if that's not the case, then I'll avoid it like a crackwhore on the street.

Do you guys have any suggestions? And how many units would you guys suggest to take (taking into consideration that I plan to do a good amount of work study)?

Thanks.

Suggested units: 13-15 units (though I emphasize more of the 13-14)

Take classes that fulfill breadth requirements and that could count toward an interested major. You have two years (more or less) to determine what you like. Go to invididual department websites and check those out to see the different majors out there. Have you considered rhetoric? (<a href="http://rhetoric.berkeley.edu%5B/url%5D">http://rhetoric.berkeley.edu</a>)</p>

Check out fss.berkeley.edu to find which freshmen seminars may interest you. Who knows? You make take one of those classes and end up majoring in it?

The first semester at Cal is transitioning. You have 7 more semesters to figure out what you want to do. Just focus on getting acquainted with Cal your first semester.

You will receive more help if you attend CalSO. My L&S adviser, Dawn, was fantastic and instrumental in helping me set my first semester schedule (my CalSO counselor was a huge help too).

I'd also suggest looking into philosophy, comp lit and languages, and second rhetoric. Look into film and art history as well. Relax and don't worry. Realize that you put down has little bearing as you're essentially undeclared in the college of letters and sciences. Just don't worry. You'll be fine. :)
