Let me give a little back story before I ask my question. My english teacher set up a project for my classes to do. It is basically to pick a community, any community, and create something to benefit them. (My teacher very much likes to be vague when giving assignments to get the creativity flowing.)

It's also helpful to know that I am part of a new Performing and Fine Arts High School.

So my project is to create something to help the future performing arts applicants at my school. Something that they can read and look at through their high school careers to keep them on track so they don't become completely overwhelmed their senior years.

That's where I would like you all to offer your assistance. If you were to have a book of this infront of you what would you want in it? Or what would you want to be included in the Table of Contents? (Since I'm not at all trying to have you all do the project for me.) I just thought who better to ask about what should be included then those who are going through or have gone through the process.

You could do it in sort of a "time-line" format. Like what to do in 9th grade (or whatever year your school starts) such as read plays for potential monologue material, research colleges and their general admissions requirements, keep your grades up in core classes, SAT prep, college visits. Your "book" would be very helpful for any high school music/drama department to have. Too many of us unknowingly wait until it's too late to do all the research and visits and then have to cram at the last minute. Good luck.

make sure you have a section on scheduling and keeping up with auditions- schedule early, keep lists of what you have to bring/sing/wear etc to each one, because they are all different. That part was way more complicated than i ever could have imagined!!

This is a great idea for a project! One of my favorite quotes is: "It's called show BUSINESS, not show PLAY!" Somewhere in there, you'll want to emphasize the importance of time-management and organization. Lots of young performers think that all they have to do is sing or dance beautifully -- and we all know that's certainly not the case.

I think you should look closely at the thread "Acceptance!!! Keys To Success?" There are a ton of wonderful suggestions there which would fit in perfectly for this type project.
