okay, right now i think i'm interested in learning about different cultures and how people group themselves (sociology). i was then also thinking about doubling it with international relations/international studies, because i think it would help when looking for a job, and a lot of the classes sound interesting.

I was wondering if anybody knew of schools that had good departments dealing with centreal/eastern europe and possibly russia.
a lot of the schools i've looked at have had a lot of asian and african courses, but i'm not as interested in these areas (for some, unkown reason).

i would also prefer larger LACs close to a city (if possible, in the midwest). this is less important, though, as right now i'm interested in schools w/ those areas of study.

First of all, I don't know at this point if it's wise for you to select your school based on that criteria. It makes more sense to narrow it down if you're applying for grad school, but your interests are likely to change.

I can tell you right off the bat that the best schools for what you're looking for right now are going to be Chicago, Wisconsin, and Michigan.

If you open yourself up to sociology(and want to study Russian/ Eastern European culture as part of an independent study or whatnot) then I think you have a much more flexible list.
