A little late, but... chance me?

Brand new to College Confidential, and a little stressed about upcoming decisions. Well, I only applied to one, but my situation is a little unique.

Trying to transfer from a 4 year (Cal Poly SLO) to UCI. I'm currently an Animal Science major, hate it, applied as Bio Sci. For the first two years, ASCI here is fairly similar to Bio aside from major courses if you're pre-vet, which I was, so most of my classes transfer. I am, however, a third year and officially a senior transfer.

Holding a 3.52 GPA, 3.65 major/support GPA. Currently completed 120 units, will be 136 by the end of this quarter. Completed all required req's for UCI Bio major, missing last quarter of O-chem for recommended (enrolling in summer). A's in all Bio classes so far. Had a solid essay, 20 hours/week part time job (had one all of sophomore year and this year), President's List freshman year, Dean's List fall quarter of this year.

Don't think it really matters, but 2180 SAT out of high school, several AP classes, graduated top 10 in class.

I'm just really not sure. I'm super freaked out, as I've got a lot riding on this. If anyone could either ease my thoughts or help prep me for some bad news, it would be much appreciated. Thank you, thank you.

You’d be safe if you were a CCC transfer. No one is safe when transferring from a four-year. You’ve got a good shot, it’s just not a sure thing.

Edit: Ha! My 600th post!

You really should have went to a CC and then transfered to a UC. It’s really hard to transfer from a CSU.

People who don’t research tend to think, “Well, Cal Poly is much better than Podunk Community College, so I’ll go there and then have a better shot at a UC.” Big mistake. Huge.

If OP knew that the odds were against him/her going in, I’d question how important UC really was. If you’re set on transferring to UC, it just doesn’t make sense to go to a non-CCC school.

I was never set on switching into a UC. Actually, I was ELC eligible for all UCs (aside from UCLA and UCB) out of high school, so it wasn’t about acceptance. I was intending to stick at out at Cal Poly all four years, as I was SOOO excited for my major. Early decision, even. Turned out, I hated it, and Poly isn’t great for what I want to do now. It’s awesome for animal science, but I don’t want to be an animal scientist. It was never my original intention to transfer, so I don’t think I made a mistake there. The mistake was my original choice of major, which screwed me in the end.

I think you can still go to a CC for a semester and transfer Fall 2012

Unfortunately, that would be a little pointless, as I’m fairly set to graduate within a year regardless of which college I attend. Even if I went to a CC for a semester, I wouldn’t get the 30 units req’d for TAG or to be considered as a CC student. That would take a year, in which time I would already have graduated from my less desired school. Also, I don’t really have any units left to take at a CC. I’ve got all of my GEs done, all lower div prereq classes, all I need now is upper div stuff that is specialized to major.
