<p>Clearly I am behind the times, but what exactly is a personal statement and is it on all applications? I've looked at one application, but I don't actually remember reading instructions for a personal statement. </p>

maybe on some school-specific supplements or applications they call it the personal statement.</p>

<p>Personal statement is a nice little rephrase for 'essay'. They just like renaming it just like how the "time" --> "line" for Iraq was renamed the "horizon" by the Bush Admin.</p>
<p>Euphemisms for your hours and hours of brain-exhausting over-thinking....and eventual writing.</p>
