A lot of questions for GTech students!

I was admitted to Georgia Tech in the Early Action round for Undecided Engineering (woo!).
And the way it looks right now it’s possible I’ll GTech, so I have a few questions for those who are currently studying there.

For engineering students, based on your personal experiences, are people friendly and outgoing? Or are they mostly shy or socially awkward? (I know I’m judging based on stereotypes but still). Do you usually have engaging, interesting discussions with other students in and out of class? Or is class mostly about taking notes and memorizing them?

Are there students at the school who engage in activism? Are they interested in social issues?
I know I’ll find all kinds of people everywhere but I’m talking about first-hand experience.

Do you have time to go off-campus or go to parties on the weekends?

Also, are there pianos on-campus for students to play? I know some universities have pianos in certain dorms. Is that true for Georgia Tech?

I’d appreciate any responses! (:

Third year CS Tech student here! Congrats on obtaining admission to the best university in the world  People are defiantly more outgoing then you would think! we have a large amount of social greek organizations and other activities throughout the campus that really brings out the social/friendly students. Yes, you will have some awkward students in your classes but there will be awkward students everywhere. If you are a social kid, you won’t have issues finding social friends. I believe its those who don’t try to find friends outside the classroom one way or another that have trouble grabbing a friend group if you decide not to go greek. Class really depends on your major! As a CS student, i notice that class is not about memorizing stuff that much. There is a club almost on anything you want here at Tech that interest you! As a greek student, I have time to do well in classes, grab some sleep, and still be social on Fridays and the weekends. It is super important to not loose your social time here at tech because you will go nuts if you try to study all the freaking time. If your interested in greek, at least try it out  From my understanding, there are pianos for students in the music center or other places around campus to use. I have not heard about pianos in dorms though. Let me know if you have any other questions!!

Thanks for the reply!
Is it possible to join Greek life in your second year? I’m international so my only exposure to Greek life has been movies (heh) so I want to wait and see if I’d feel comfortable in that atmosphere. I really don’t like cliques and labels. Do Greek students interact and socialise with other students a lot outside classes?

Quick question about academics here:

If I decide to go to Tech, can I create my own major, like Neuroscience? I’m debating between Tulane, which does have this program, and Tech, which does not list it on its website. I’m thinking of going a medical route at some point.

Any responses are appreciated.

@Parallax3‌ : Perhaps via the BME program, you can end up pursuing this fellowship at Georgia Tech (which is also offer and origionated at Emory) that focuses on computational neuroscience: http://compneurosci.college.emory.edu/training/undergraduate.html

It is an oppurtunity that you can pursue if you are interested in that, and you can also take any of the neuro related upperlevel BME or biology classes.
