I am a freshman at an above average state college. I just finished my first semester.
In high school, I had a 3.5 UW and a 4.46 W GPA. I got a 2080/1360 on the SAT.

In college, I have a 3.8 GPA but one of my four classes this semester was chorus which only counts as a quarter of a course. I fear that schools I will try to transfer to will look down on this. I am also in the honors program at my school. I took an honors Philosophy course which I got an A in.

ECs - High School - One year of track, Did audio and lighting for school plays, and non-leadership roles in various clubs.

College - Debate team, a cappella group, Ultimate Frisbee, ACLU

I am looking to transfer because I am going to a college where the average SAT score (Reading and Math) is 150 points lower than mine and many people here didn't have great GPAs in high school. I fear that my potential for success will be severely hampered by my current college because no one has ever heard of it and it is only slightly above average as far as colleges go.

A lot of my friends who had similar stats as me in high school got into much better colleges than the one I am in. I went through some pretty distressing personal issues in my junior and senior year of high school and I didn't give enough time to the college search process. I only applied to 3 schools and none of them were matches. I didn't apply to any reaches. I knew nothing about the process at the time. I'm only realizing now the magnitude of my actions and I am so angry at myself. I have recently found out that it is harder to transfer into a good school than to be accepted through regular admissions.

I also have no idea what I want to major in which makes this process even harder.

Does anyone know of any good colleges that would accept me based on the above information if I wrote an excellent essay? What if I waited, got all As, ending with a high 3.9 and transferred for my junior year? Is this a good strategy to get into a better school? I would be willing to take summer courses if my classes do not transfer.

I signed up for the SAT2s just in case I would need them to transfer. I foolishly did not take them in high school. Should I take them now? I also did not take the ACT in high school because I was so consumed with personal problems and I was short-sighted. Also, should I retake the SATs? I didn't study at all for them in high school and I feel that I could improve my scores especially since I am now medicated for ADD.

I have been living on my computer for the past two weeks trying to figure out my options and I have been freaking out. I figured this was a good place to go for advice. Can someone advise me as to what to do? Thank you so much!
