A lot of things have changed, so I need to ask again.

I've been in a slump academically due to general apathy - it's forced me to re-evaluate my goals and aspirations, which I'm thankful for. It does mean, however, a few alterations on my app, so...

Schools, categorized as I think they should be - parentheses indicate how many from each section I'm going to apply, listed in order of preference by section:

IMPOSSIBILITIES(1): Columbia, MIT (LOL, NOWAI), UPenn, Cornell, Duke.

Reaches(2): Johns Hopkins (maybe an impossibility, actually), UVA, U Chicago (see JHU), Northwestern (see U Chicago), UNC.

Matches(2): VTech, UMD:CP, Penn State, William and Mary.

Safeties(1-2): JMU, VTech (?), VCU, a few others.

Did I range these correctly? Any other suggestions?

Mind, I'm not really considering west coast schools anymore, due to aforementioned contemplation.

Even though I listed the impossibilities, what I really want is to get into JHU. It's got everything I want, including location, since my family is in VA, and I have a five year old sister I'd like to visit more than once in a blue moon. What do you guys think my chances are of getting into JHU, in particular?

What, was I supposed to scream: "CHANCES PLZ!!!!11!1!" to get people to chance me?

I think you have a good shot at JHU IF you bring up your SAT scores. You have a great gpa and I think you already know that. 4.46 is good IF you go to a competitive high school. essays mean a lot though, so you have to make sure you're doing well on those - just get them proofread by your college counselor, ap Lit teacher.

And if I don't?

:(

EDIT: Hey! You had a 4.27 and applied to the Ivies!

JHU is WAY less selective than those. As in, 30ish% acceptance rates.

But yeah, going to bring the SAT scores up - gotta do it anyway, because I want the Merck scholarship for employees. :D

yeah i know i had a 4.27. but i go to an unbelievably competitive high school where it means a lot. 4.4 is unheard of at my school. but yeah it IS low, i just hope that the admissions officers look at it in the context of my school.

andi thought you were a junior becuase you had not recieved your SAT iis!!! but if you are a senior, which seems a probability, i'd say you still have a decent shot at JHU. really all i can tell you is to pour some passion into those essays, and don't skimp out. really do everything you possibly can to make them phenomenal. good luck!

They will, no worries.

Rank 3 should be good enough though, right? Er... :(

Reaches: MIT, Columbia, UPenn
Slight Reaches: Cornell, Duke, NW, UChicago
Match: UVa, Cornell, UNC, W+M

Your a little too harsh on yourself :P

Oh, sure, don't comment on JHU! :D

But UChicago, Duke, Cornell, slight reaches? Ah... I dunno. I get the impression they're harder to get into than that.

3rd out of 400 is DEFINATELY good enough.

APPARENTLY, ALLCAPS DOES DRAW ATTENSHUN!

Sorry.

I think you have a decent chance at most your schools- you never know what they are looking for. For NU, write decent, interesting essays and demonstrate interest and your chances will increase greatly. I had a 1410/2100 SAT and got in, so you definetly have a shot.

PS: 12 APs?? Are you serious?

Yep, I'm serious. Sadly. :p

NU? Er... NW, you mean?

Bump for the night, cuz I'm off, sorry.

Yea by NU i mean Northwestern...that's their official abbreviation.

Oops.

ARGH, my ignorance is showing... :p

Anyone else? A plea with a please?

Oh I misssed JHU? Throw that into slight reaches :)

Ah bon!

How much of a "slight" reach is it? I'm a little terrified of it all, really, because I'd really like to get in (though not to the obsessive, all-or-nothing extent or anything).

Would like a few more answers... :p

One more bump - this is it, methinks, for now.
