A&M Dorm Questions?

I’m thinking of going to TAMU for College and I have a few questions about the dorms. What is the best dorm for students? Is there a better dorm for an engineering student?(sounds dumb but hey…) Do you get the roommate you pick for sure? Is it better to dorm or rent an apartment with three other friends freshman year?

Anyone???

@imutterlylostlol Hi!! Congrats on your acceptance! This thread helps explain the dorms at A&M - http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/20966225#Comment_20966225

I think most of the southside commons dorms are popular with engineering students because of the location. Hullabaloo is the newest and most popular dorm - it does fill up fast. White Creek is an apartment style dorm and they just opened, or will open soon, a new student center and dining right next door to it. There are dorms for university honors (McFadden and Lechner) and other ones for Living Learning Programs. Lots of choices! Take a tour, if you can. There will be residence tours during Aggieland Saturday.

Once you get your acceptance to A&M, you only have 30 days to apply for housing to get guaranteed freshman housing. If I remember correctly, you will get your housing deposit back if you decide not to go to A&M. I’m not completely sure about this, so double check.

Here is some more info on housing: https://reslife.tamu.edu/options/halls/

And the interactive map: http://www.tamu.edu/map/index.html

@trish02 There is no deposit for housing, just the non-refundable $75 application fee.

@Evon1254 Perfect. That’s even better. Thanks for the clarification!

Mosher is the most popular dorm for engineers. It’s in the Commons, so there’s an accessible dining hall, convenience store, game room, and a lot more directly connected to the four Commons dorms.
